December 21, 2023Christmas Schedule at Saint Helena
This year’s Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (a.k.a. Christmas) falls on a Monday, which means that the fourth week of Advent is reduced to a single day, the Fourth Sunday of Advent, and it also means that Sunday, December 24th is both the Fourth Sunday of Advent and the Solemnity of Christmas, depending on the time of day. Does this mean that we have to go to Mass twice the weekend of the 24th? Yes.
Twice on Sunday? Perhaps, although not necessarily. The Church affords us some options and flexibility. Some individuals or families may opt for Saturday evening and Sunday night, for example, or Sunday morning and Monday morning. Some others may even opt for Saturday evening and Monday morning! You just need to pick one from the Fourth Sunday of Advent and one from Christmas. A most blessed Advent and joyous Christmas season to all!
