THE VIKINGS: Sign up to learn more about them!

A look at what some say was simply a ruthless band of marauders while others say, “Not so fast.”  We will examine these warriors in Christian accounts at the time and what today’s researchers write.  This first in the series of lectures “Travels with Al” consists of the following topics related to those Scandinavian Northmen.

  • The Vikings and Charlemagne:  Bad guys attacking and good guys defending?  Really?
  • Charlemagne’s “brotherly love” for the Saxons and its “Christian” effect on the Vikings.
  • The Vikings attend Easter services in Paris.
  • Buying off and Baptizing in France, without kissing the royal foot.
  • Cashing in 155 years later in England to change the world forever.
  • Spain: The men from the North and the inhospitable Caliphate of Al Ándalus.

This lecture/talk/discussion is planned to last a maximum of 60-90 minutes for an audience of at least seven, but certainly many more are welcome. We will be in the Parish Life Center beginning 4:00 PM on June 19, 2024. Please contact the office to sign up.
